URBAN INTERVENTION STUDY

The Urban Integration Study is an initial basis for dialogue with Fundão City Council and other official bodies it may wish to involve, in order to assess the relevance of the proposals and define subsequent work stages.

The aim of this initial approach is to establish an initial working platform for appraisal and dialogue with the services of Fundão Municipal Council in order to define procedures and establish criteria to make the project viable in its various aspects.

The urban design proposal seeks to establish a clear identity through the orderly repetition of elements with identical volumes, distinguishing itself from the more traditional occupation in a closed block and in lines parallel to the roads, a solution that has already been pointed out to some extent in the block to the west. A connection is proposed between Rua Dr. Celestino Monteiro and the meeting of Rua da Diáspora and Travessa do Vale, and it is suggested that the block be closed off in the continuity of the existing volumes. The solution allows for great visual permeability and movement in practically all directions, modeled by the volumes of the first floor in a space of different scale and proportion, freeing up the central space for green space, suggesting a possible park connection between the site and the cemetery.

In order to manage the investment prudently, the design will be supported by modules of a size suited to phased development, building a solution capable of accommodating adaptations over time to respond to changes in context which, especially in small markets, have an impact in short timeframes.
